The Light Millennium TV – Studio Town Hall Meeting:
“Peace: Reality or Utopian Dream?”

This concept produced based on QPTV’s provided “Technical Grant Award” in 2012.

This program was shown on QPTV’s channels [1] in June 2012. However, it was made available on The Light Millennium organization’s website [2] in 2014. In particular, based on received the recent 2015 National Hometown Awards [3] under Independent Producer/Educational Activities categories by Bircan Ünver, and related two parts Turkish interview on Yerelce, [Part 1] [Part 2]

We thought to bring to your attentıon to this studio town-hall program, “Peace: Reality or Utopian Dream?”, [4] which also inspired the Yerelce’s title of the second part of the interview with producer Bircan Ünver.

“Peace: Reality or Utopian Dream?” presented with expert panelists from the United Nations (Ambassadorial / Governmental level), NGOs, and universities. The esteemed panelists and studio guests include:
H.E. Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury,
Former Under – Secretary – General and High Representative of the UN;
Honorable Nejmeddine Lakhal, Deputy Permanent Representative, Mission of Tunisia to the U.N.;
Randy Rydell, Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Office of Sergio Duarte, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs at the U.N.;
John Burroughs, J.D., Ph.D., Executive Director, New York – based Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy (LCNP) & the UN Office of
the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms (IALANA);
Sally (Salwa) Kader, President, US Federation for Middle East Peace;
Dr. Jill Strauss, Adjunct Professor, Sociology of Conflict at John Jay College;
Blanche Foster, Acting Executive Director, Darfur Rehabilitation Project –
DRP; Adam Reilly, UNNGO Representative, Darfur Rehabilitation Project;
Dr. Sorosh Roshan, President, International Health Awareness; and
Ms. Kausha Sriwardana, President, Helping Hands, Inc. (Texas) & UNNGO Representative.

The aforementioned panelists and guests illustrate ideas with strong references and facts from both sides of the coin such as:
Nuclear threat, military spending, nuclear and conventional disarmament, UN Resolution#1325, Millennium Development Goals, the UN, Middle East concerns, A Decade of Peace Culture, and whether Peace is a Reality or Utopian Dream in our time

Overall the panelists concluded that “Peace is the only way,” and it is not just “a good dream, but necessity. We all need to work towards it.” Peace is not only a governmental or political issue; it belongs to each and everyone of us in the line of “we must have peace within us” first.

The program Produced and hosted by Bircan Ünver, executive producer of The LMTV, [5] [Head] NGO Representative of The Light Millennium at the United Nations Department of Public Information, who is a 20 – year [according to the year 2012] “Independent” Certified Access Producer of QPTV. The Town-Hall meeting is co-hosted by Cem Zorlular, NGO Youth Representative of The Light Millennium at the United Nations (in 2012) and student at Columbia University.(2012).

Further, Bircan Ünver produced her first program with the same title and overarching concept in two lengths in 1992. As first, for her New School M.A. in Media Studies – Production Class Project as 11:30 min., then also for its cable-casting purpose on QPTV’s channels in Queens, New York as 30 min., which consequently had shown several times in the following years.
To that extend, this TV Town Hall meeting, “Peace: Reality and Utopian Dream?” also marked the Producer’s initial program’s 20th anniversary in 2012.
