 Armenia

 ASSISTANCE GOALS:  United States Government (USG) assistance addresses Armenia’s economic vulnerabilities, which have been exacerbated by the global economic crisis, while continuing to support economic competitiveness. USG funding supports democratic reforms and strengthened democratic institutions and processes, as well as improving health and social services. USG assistance also supports activities that to enhance the movement of goods/people throughout the region and to create a better trade and investment environment.

 ASSISTANCE GOALS: United States Government (USG) assistance is aimed at developing democratic institutions of government and civil society to promote public participation and strengthen the rule of law. USG funding supports the adoption of economic reforms to promote stability and growth in the non-oil sectors of the economy.USG assistance also aims to strengthen Azerbaijan’s interoperability with NATO and to improve regional security by increasing Azerbaijan’s ability to combat domestic and transnational crime and corruption.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

ASSISTANCE GOALS: The overriding U.S. Government (USG) interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina remains its emergence as a stable, democratic, multiethnic state on the road to Euro-Atlantic integration. To ensure the stability of the region, it is important that Bosnia and Herzegovina develop cooperative relationships with its neighbors, successfully combat crime, consolidate democratic institutions, build a society based on mutual tolerance and understanding, and achieve sustainable economic growth.

Georgia

ASSISTANCE GOALS: United States Government (USG) assistance aims to promote consolidation and advancement of the democratic reforms and to assist Georgia’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic community through the implementation of free-market reforms. The USG also supports Georgia’s efforts to attain energy security by diversifying its energy sources. In June 2009, the USG fulfilled its pledge of a $1 billion economic support package for Georgia to assist internally displaced persons, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and help restore investor confidence in the Georgian economy following the August 2008 conflict with Russia.

 Kosovo

ASSISTANCE GOALS: The overall goal for United States Government (USG) assistance to Kosovo is to strengthen the country’s nascent institutions and its multi-ethnic democracy, further contributing to regional stability. Assistance priorities include supporting U.S. participation in the European Security and Defense Policy mission (EULEX) and other activities promoting the rule of law, ensuring the development of a democratic and multi-ethnic society, promoting economic development, and supporting Kosovo’s progress toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

Southeastern Europe Regional Budget

ASSISTANCE GOALS: The United States Government (USG) has a strong interest in assuring that the countries of Southeastern Europe overcome the legacy of the conflicts of the 1990s and achieve full integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions. U.S. Government (USG) regional assistance advances this goal by helping countries to work together on issues of common concern and restore links needed to make permanent the transition to democracy and market-based economies.
